    Baranov Museum - Located at 101 Marine Way across from the Ferry Terminal Building. Explore Kodiak’s rich history in Alaska’s oldest building, a National Historic Landmark. Our exhibits cover the last 200 years, from Kodiak’s first people, the Alutiiq, through Russian colonization, the Alaskan purchase and the early American period from World War II, the 1964 earthquake and tsunami and the present. Check out the 1860’s Alaska Traveling Exhibit sponsored by Kodiak Historical Society and the Alaska Department of Natural Resources Office of History & Archaeology.     Historic Sesquicentennial Anniversary Walking Tour of Kodiak– Sponsored by Kodiak Historical Society and Alaska Historical Commission. Discover a fascinating historical comparison of Kodiak “Then & Now” in celebration of the Sesquicentennial 150th Anniversary of the purchase of the Alaska territory by the United States from Russia. Explore Kodiak through the eras in this self-guided walking tour of the downtown area. Sesquicentennial Booklets can be picked up from the Baranov Museum anytime during regular business hours to guide you from the museum, through Sargent Park, to the American Cemetery and more!     Westside Stories Temporary Exhibit– Sponsored by Kodiak Historical Society and Alaska Department of Natural Resources Office of History & Archaeology. The Kodiak Historical Society & Baranov Museum began the Westside Stories Project to capture the people, places, and stories of Kodiak Island’s west side. These are those stories, stretching from Kupreanof to Karluk, weaving in and out of the Viekoda, Uganik, Uyak Bays, stopping at fish camps, lodges, and canneries along the way. It’s history.     Discover Kodiak Community Scavenger Hunt – Pick up your hunt package at Discover Kodiak anytime starting May 25th – May 27th. Between 8a.m. and 5p.m. Packages are due back by May 27th at 5p.m. The winner will receive a Discover Kodiak gift basket! A team can be up to 5 people at $5.00 per team.     Alutiiq Museum -Hours of operation: Tuesday – Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Noon – 4p.m. The Alutiiq Museum preserves and shares the heritage and culture of the Alutiiq people.     6 p.m. Tennis Tournament held at Baranof Park May 24th- May 30th - Sponsored by Edward Jones Investments. There will be men’s and women’s singles and doubles divisions and if there is interest mixed doubles. Awards will be presented for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each division. Matches will depend on the weather and will run through Memorial Day on evenings and weekends.     6:00-7:30pm   Drop off time for artists showing or selling work for the 17th Annual Crab Festival Art Show at the Kodiak Inn.Show times, Friday 6:30-9:30, Saturday noon-6, Sunday noon-4, all work must be picked up at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.     12:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. – Alaska Airlines Luggage Tags Stop by the Alaska Airlines tent on Friday next to the Crab Festival Headquarters booth to get your 2017 Crab Festival luggage tag!

    12:00 p.m. -8:00 p.m. Annual Kodiak Public Library Association Crab Fest Book Sale - Books, books and more! Bring a bag, bring a box, bring a wheelbarrow and stock up on books for the year.  Sale will be held at Kodiak Public Library. For more information call Gretchen at 539-2366.

    3:00 p.m. – 5 p.m.- Kiwanis’ Nail Benders Boat Building- Join the Kiwanis Club of Kodiak for boat building. A few volunteers will be on scene for assistance. Located on the midway.     4 p.m. - Kodiak Waterfront Tour -Meet outside Harborside Coffee, across from the small boat harbor ramp. Kodiak Maritime Museum sponsors this 90 minute walking tour giving visitors and non-fishing residents an up close and personal tour of the Alaskan fishing industry. Learn about the boats, the gear, the fish, and the men and women who make their living in the nation's most dangerous occupation. Hear true stories of huge catches, wild storms, and the tragic losses that sometimes go with working at sea. Guides are long time Kodiak fishermen. Fee $20.00 per person.     8:45 a.m. - Grand Parade Line up** Same Mill Bay Route as Last Year **Parade participants line up on Powell Ave by Main Elementary School. Judging begins at 9 a.m. Parade sponsored by Kodiak Kiwanis and Kodiak Chamber of Commerce, 486-5557.

    10 a.m. - Crab Festival Grand Parade. ** Same Mill Bay Route as Last Year ** The parade runs along Mill Bay Road between Powell and Bartel Avenues. Parking is limited so be sure to come early. Sponsored by the Kodiak Chamber of Commerce and the Kodiak Kiwanis Club.

    10:15 a.m.- Crab Festival Shrimp Parade. Lineup at 9:15 a.m. at the parking lot in front of Noodles. All entrants must have adult supervision before the parade and while walking the parade route. Everyone wins in this parade! Balloons are provided by Associated Island Brokers. Please call 486-5557 with any questions.

    11:30 a.m. - United States Coast Guard Search and Rescue Demo – Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue and Hoist Demonstration by MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter and Rescue Swimmer. Sponsored by the USCG Air Station Kodiak: whether one mile or a thousand miles away, Air Station Kodiak aircrews and aircrafts come to the aid of mariners in distress.

    12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. – Kodiak 4-H Pony Rides - Join us at Coon Field for pony rides. $5.00 per ride. All proceeds benefit our local 4-H program.

    12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. – Craft Saturday at the Alutiiq Museum – Crab Ornaments - Head up the hill to the Museum during Crab Fest, for a fun self-guided craft activity! Practice your sewing skills making a crab shaped felt ornament and learn about the role crabs played in traditional Alutiiq society. All materials provided, suggested donation $5.     12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. 2017 Crab Festival Poster Signing & Kodiak based Children’s book signing with the artists–Amarie June, artist of the 2017 Crab Fest Poster along with Annjannette Larsen-Vainio illustrator of “An Alaskan Adventure with Archer & Ember” (a Kodiak based Children’s book written by Krystin Babicz-Leghorn) will be signing and selling their artwork at The Frame Shop’s Crab Fest booth 1 hour after the Crab Fest Parade.

    1 p.m. - Norm Holm Memorial Survival Suit Race. Teams that want to participate must sign up at the boat ramp by Harbormaster's office before 12:30 p.m. on the day of the event. Serious fun in this popular event! Entry fee is $40 per team. Those who place 1st, 2nd and 3rd will receive a plaque, hooded sweatshirt/sweatpants. First place winners get to hold the traveling trophy for the next year. All participants will receive a T-shirt. Sponsored by the Kodiak Fishermen's Wives & Associates and Grundéns.     1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Coloring with Kodiak Police Department – The Kodiak  Police Department will be at Fisherman’s Hall to color! All kids are welcome!

    2 p.m. - Kids Sawdust Pile on the Mall-Sponsored by the Kodiak Lions Club. Fun for children! Located in the Sun’aq Tribal Hall parking lot.Watch the sawdust fly, as kids search for $1000 in loose change.

    3 p.m. – Kodiak Fish Toss -Sponsored by the Best Western Kodiak Inn and Grundéns. Located at the boat ramp at the spit. Teams of 2, sign up in advance at the Best Western or 15 minutes before the event in person at the boat ramp. Prizes for 1st and 2nd place!     3:30 p.m. Kids Foot Races – held at the Baranof Park. Youth from two to about twelve years are divided into age groups. Ribbons are awarded to winners and participants. There is no charge for this event. Contact the City of Kodiak Parks and Recreation at 481-2267 for more information.

    4 p.m. – 2017 Crab Festival Golf Tournament - Bear Valley Golf Course. The Crab Fest Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday. This is an 18 hole shotgun start event based on stroke play. Fun for everyone! For more information contact the Bear Valley Golf Course at 487-5323.

    6:00 p.m. - Ping Pong tournament - Sign up at the teen center from 5 – 6 p.m. There will be no charge for this event. There will be an Open and A division.     8:00 p.m. - Lion's Arm Wrestling Championships held at Tony's Bar on the Mall - Weight classes for men and women.Arm wrestling professional table. Participants must sign up and weigh in by 7:00 p.m. Entry fee is $10 with proceeds going to Lions Charity. Must be 21 to enter. Sponsored by The Lions Club.     Annual Ididarock-A Ridiculous endurance triathlon- Bike 41-miles with the bike riders from Pasagshak to town, then run the 9-mile Pillar Mountain Classic (late start okay but there may be no one at the top with water), and then swim/TBD (Dependent on pool reopening)1-mile lap swim between 1 and 3:30 p.m. at the Kodiak School and Community Swimming pool (fins okay). To register circle the Ididarock on the Crab Festival forms. Register by 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 27th. Entry Fee is $30.00.     TBD - Crab Festival Marathon - This standard 26.2-mile marathon begins between Silver Beach and Kalsin Bay and ends on Marine Way in front of the Harbormaster’s building. Register by 6 p.m. on Saturday May 27th.  Course record for men is held by Robert Onders 2:43:29, 2010. Women’s course record is held by Sally Skimin, 3:24:27, 2002. Entry fee is $20. Monthly passes for men’s and women’s 1st place overall, medals for winners in five different men’s and women’s age groups. All participants will receive a t-shirt.     9 a.m. - Pasagshak-to-Kodiak Bike -This 41-mile event begins at the mouth of Pasagshak River and ends on Marine Way in front of the Harbormaster’s building. Register by 6 p.m. on Saturday May 27th. Course record for men is held by Gage Allen 1:50.24, 2016. Women’s course record is held by Adelia Myrick 2:06.05, 2014. Entry fee is $20. Monthly passes for men’s and women’s 1st place overall, medals to winners in five different men’s and women’s age groups. All participants will receive a t-shirt.     10:00 a.m. - Unofficial Crab Festival Half MarathonSponsored by Kodiak Veteran Outreach. Register by April 21st to receive a t-shirt. Race day registration is available on May 28th at 9:00 am the day of the event located at the finish line at the American Legion parking lot. Registration fee is $35.00. Drop off your early registration forms and fee to the KANA Mill Bay Health Center. Blank forms will be available at the KANA Mill Bay Health Center.     12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. - 17th Annual Crab Festival Art Show -at the Kodiak Inn, Harbor Room.  All art must be picked up at 4:00 p.m. at show closing.

    12:30 p.m. - Pillar Mountain Race -The traditional Pillar Mountain course starts on Marine Way in front of the Harbormaster building, goes up Mill Bay Road, down Birch, up Pillar Mountain Road, follows the trail west along the top, goes down a rugged trail into Swampy Acres, and back on Rezanof to the finish at the starting line. Course record for men is held by Matias Saari 51:46, 2011. Women’s record is held by Kristi Klinnert 57:29, 1987. Monthly passes for men’s and women’s 1st place overall, medals for winners in five different men’s and women’s age groups. Entry fee is $20. Register from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Fisherman’s Hall.     1 p.m. - Kodiak Russian Balalaika Players at the Baranov Museum- Sponsored by the Kodiak Historical Society & Baranov Museum and the Kodiak Russian Balalaika Players. A lively performance of authentic Russian folk music with domras, accordion, percussion, singers and of course, balalaikas. Enjoy refreshments and free admission to the museum.     1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Baranov Museum Open House -Come explore the museum! Admission is free during the Open House with light refreshment provided. Get a special sneak peek of special collections and limited access areas, meet new staff, explore the exhibits, try hands-on museum activities and enjoy live music from the Kodiak Balalaika Players.

    3 p.m. - Fishermen's Memorial Service at the Fishermen's Memorial Site by the Harbormaster's building in downtown Kodiak - This annual memorial service is to honor fishermen lost in Alaskan waters and lost to the Kodiak community.     8:00 a.m. - 2 p.m. Kodiak Community Blood Drive - Roll up your sleeves to donate blood at the Kodiak Crab Festival! We'll be in the Stellar Room of the Kodiak Harbor Convention Center Building. We'll be there on Thursday, May 25th through Sunday, May 28th from 9:00 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Monday, May 29th from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. “Register to Donate & receive a free t-shirt”.     9 a.m. - 12 p.m. - Kodiak's 4-H Annual Sourdough Pancake Breakfast- Held at the Elks Lodge. Serving sourdough pancakes, ham, fruit, coffee and juice. Sourdough starters available for purchase at the event.Take out order available. $5 for Senior Citizens and youth 4-12 years old, $8 for adults, free for age 3 and under.All proceeds help support our local 4-H Youth.

    11 a.m. - Veterans Memorial Service -Sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign War and honoring Veterans. This service commences at the city cemetery located on Chichenoff St., behind Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center.      1 p.m. - 2 p.m. - Blessing of the Fleet location TBD: The traditional blessing of the fleet is open to all vessels. A blessing service is sung followed by an Orthodox priest sprinkling each passing vessel with Holy Water. This event is sponsored by the Kodiak Harbormaster & Russian Orthodox Church.     2 p.m. - Rubber Duck Race -Held at the Russian River. The 24th Annual running of the Ducks Rotary Fundraiser to benefit scholarship funds. Wagers purchase a numbered rubber duck that is released into the Russian River. The swiftest, most cunning ducky to cross the finish line earns its owner a handsome share of the proceeds. You can purchase your rubber duck at the Noon Rotary Crab Festival Booth!1st prize- $2,500 and 12 other money prizes.Sponsored by the Kodiak Noon Rotary.

    3:00 p.m. - First 2017 Race Day at the Kodiak Island Raceway on the Fairgrounds-We will be holding our first 2017 Race Day including Powder Puff races. Fun for the whole family!
