Providence Health Systems of Alaska operates Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center (PKIMC) under a lease-management agreement with the Kodiak Island Borough. PKIMC is a critical access hospital accredited by the Joint Commission. The facility features 25 acute care beds, including four birthing suites, two psychiatric care beds, and two ICU beds. In addition, the Care Center, PKIMC’s extended care facility, has 19 long-term care beds. PKIMC provides an extensive array of inpatient and outpatient services, including emergency, surgery, maternity, general medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, diagnostics, mammography, respiratory therapy, sleep studies, specialty clinic, laboratory and radiology and imaging services. The Specialty Clinic provides outpatient care in surgery, orthopedics, and psychiatry. Visiting specialists include pediatrics, urology, allergy, dermatology, podiatry, psychiatry, gynecology, audiology and ear, nose and throat.

As a federally qualified health center, Kodiak Community Health Center provides high quality, accessible, and sustainable primary and preventive health services to everyone in the Kodiak Island Borough. This health center is a Health Center Program grantee under 42 U.S.C. 254b, and a deemed Public Health Service employee under 42 U.S.C. 233(g)-(n). Kodiak Community Health Center began operations in January 2004 and has grown rapidly in response to the high level of community need and positive response to their exceptional care. They offer healthcare services to everyone in the Kodiak community – insured, uninsured and underinsured. Their comprehensive, state-of-the-art health center is staffed with five MD’s and Physician Assistants as well as a full staff of experienced and caring Medical Assistants. They are open seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays, with available appointments in the evenings and same-day appointments for sick visits. Kodiak Community Health Center is located adjacent to the hospital which ensures that most services can be completed the same day. They also provide referral arrangements such as mental health treatment and counseling, substance abuse service, specialty care, and hospitalizations. Kodiak Community Health Center is proud to also offer enabling services not found in traditional medical practices such as the Sliding Fee Discount Program based on family size and income level for the uninsured and those with a limited income, translators (Spanish and Tagalog on-site), and comprehensive case management services.

The Kodiak Area Native Association contracts with the Alaska Area Native Health Service and Indian Health Service to provide health care services to Native Americans in Kodiak and outlying villages.
