Downtown
Trick or Treat
For more than a decade, Kodiak families, businesses, organizations,
and community partners have gathered downtown for an afternoon of
costumes, candy, community fun, and Halloween tradition.

Costumes β’ Treats β’ Community Fun
Hosted by the Kodiak Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Trick
or Treat invites children and families to visit participating businesses
and organizations throughout downtown Kodiak. Local storefronts open their
doors, hand out treats, dress up, decorate, and sometimes offer games and

More Than a Decade of Halloween in Downtown Kodiak
Downtown Trick or Treat began in 2010 and has since become a beloved Kodiak Halloween tradition. Its purpose has remained remarkably consistent: creating a fun, welcoming place for families to celebrate while bringing the community together downtown.
βItβs important to have this event so that we can create a safe, fun way
for families to celebrate Halloween together while also supporting our
local shops.β
Each participating business brings its own personality to Downtown Trick or Treat. Families can stop by for candy and treats while enjoying festive decorations, creative costumes, games, and other Halloween activities offered throughout downtown.
Why Downtown Trick or Treat Matters
Downtown Trick or Treat is about more than candy. It gives families a safe,
convenient place to celebrate Halloween while introducing residents to the
businesses and organizations that make downtown Kodiak special.
For an afternoon, families move from storefront to storefront, meet local
business owners and employees, discover organizations they may not have
visited before, and experience downtown as a community gathering place.
Creating traditions that make Kodiak feel like home.
π A Safe Way to Celebrate
Safety has always been at the heart of Downtown Trick or Treat. Held on Halloween or the closest weekday, the event takes place in the afternoon, giving Kodiak families a fun and welcoming way to celebrate together before the early fall evening sets in..
Event hours are also planned around local school schedules, with Downtown Trick or Treat beginning just after the final school bell. This gives families a chance to head downtown after school, enjoy the festivities, and visit participating businesses before continuing their Halloween celebrations and neighborhood trick-or-treating later in the evening.
Halloween Safety, Kodiak Style.
Halloween is one of Kodiakβs liveliest evenings, with families, neighbors, and trick-or-treaters out enjoying the community. All that activity and noise helps keep busy areas bustling, but living in Kodiak always means staying bear aware. A few simple precautions can help everyone enjoy a fun and safe Halloween.
- Older children should stay together in groups.
- Carry a flashlight and remain aware of your surroundings.
- Make noise and be loud while walking.
- Stay away from dumpsters and garbage areas.
- If you see a bear, alert others and walk, rather than run, away.
